Hi, I'm Melissa, the owner/photographer of Lavender Lane Photography. I'm a proud wife of my recently retired Air Force veteran husband and a mom to three beautiful children. We've recently moved back to my home state of North Carolina after my husband's retirement and look forward to getting to know and photograph many gorgeous families in the area. While traveling across the country in the military, Idaho was one of the places we were stationed. In a dry, desert landscape, I always looked forward to the blooming of the lavender flowers there in July because it was a hopeful, comforting sight in all of the brown that surrounded us. Some of those photos taken in the fields became my most famous across the country....and the name Lavender Lane was born.
A former school teacher in both North Carolina and Florida, I left my teaching job when my firstborn was two so I could focus my time on being just a mother. Photography grew as a hobby during those years as we had two more children and wanted to capture their milestones as they grew....their first teeth, their chubby feet...Pouring myself into gaining every bit of knowledge I could, I became obsessed with learning all I could about photography, lighting styles, posing, and more. My love eventually grew into a business that I could enjoy while still being at home and homeschooling my children.
9 years later, I have successfully run my business in three different states now. My studio in downtown Elkin provides me the opportunity to not only do outdoor photographs, but also indoor studio sets. You'll get a custom experience from start to finish as you are welcome to meet with me to discuss locations, clothing choices to match the style of the location, and a chance to express your desires so I can shop for props or backdrops that make your session a cohesive one. My experience and eye for detail means that you will always look your best. My clients know that I will always pose them in the most flattering manner and guide you through the session so you are completely at ease!
I pride myself in the time and effort I have invested into honing my skills and art. You'll get portraits taken with the best equipment possible, adorable props and backdrops, and know that I have put hundreds of hours into education to bring you consistent and professional results. My passion and strength is children's portraiture and I know that children grow and change SO quickly. I don't want to regret not capturing quality photos of them during those precious milestones.
Some of my most proud moments as a photographer have been seeing my work recognized in print. I placed 13th out of 12,000 entries in the Shoot and Share contest, have been published in Military Spouse magazine, Baby Love magazine, and was chosen to photograph a top performer for DoTerra and be published in their company's magazine.
I look forward to being your photographer soon!
